چکیده

The inclusion of aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase (AP) determination within routine laboratory tests for patients in both primary care and hospital care has brought about an increase in the detection of symptomatic-stage liver disturbances. Viral hepatitis is the most common cause of aminotransferase elevation, and accounts for more than 90% of acute hepatitis. Diagnosis is easily confirmed through serologic immune marker determination and even genetic techniques. However, a small percentage of viral hepatitis remain undetected by these methods. On the other hand, other causes that may induce transaminase elevation include alcohol, and metabolic, toxic, autoimmune, infectious, cholostatic or endocrine disturbances, many of which may respond to either specific or symptomatic treatment.

The Effects of Gluten-Free Diet on Hypertransaminasemia in Patients with Celiac Disease

BACKGROUND Celiac disease (CD) is an immune mediated condition that leads to small bowel atrophy and improve with a gluten free diet (GFD). Extra-intestinal manifestations of CD include hypertransaminasemia. In this study, the effects of a GFD on hypertransaminasemia in patients with newly diagnosed CD were studied. METHODS Ninety eight new diagnosed consecutive patients with CD 40 males and ...

Improving nonalcoholic fatty liver disease management by general practitioners: a critical evaluation and impact of an educational training program.

BACKGROUND/AIMS The epidemic diffusion of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) represents an emerging problem in family medicine. General Practitioners (GPs) should pay attention to patients with fatty liver, look at associated conditions, identify causal factors and patients at risk of evolution. This study aimed to assess GPs' knowledge and practice and a training project impact about NAF...

Hepatitis B Virus Infection in Patients with Blood Disorders: A Concise Review in Pediatric Study

Childhood Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection causes both medical and public health challenges. Infants who acquire HBV parentally have up to 90% risk of developing chronic HBV infection. It is now estimated that approximately 10% of worldwide cancers are attributable to viral infection, with the vast majority (>85 %) occurring in the developing world. In this distribution, elevated rate and prev...

Therapeutic Suggestions in Occult Chronic Hypertransaminasemia

Less than 25% of asymptomatic adults have elevated levels of transaminases on a first evaluation, one third of these patients have normal values on a retest. From those who have elevated ALT on retest, some prove to suffer from an acute liver disease (with normal ALT in less than 6 months), and the others represent the category of chronic (more than 6 months) elevation of transaminases. The eti...

A STUDY COMPARING CEREBROSPINAL FLUID LACTATE LEVELS IN CHILDHOOD CULTURE POSITIVE AND CULTURE NEGATIVE MENINGITIS

Despite recent innovations in the laboratory diagnosis of bacterial from nonbacterial meningitis, solid data-necessary for early determination of bacterial meningitis (BM) before organism growth in the culture medium-are missing. Therefore cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) lactate levels were evaluated as a possible means of differentiating the two clinical entities. This was a retrospective study....
